Choosing the Right Ear Clip

The electrode clip is where stimulation meets skin. It sits on the tragus of your ear — the small flap of cartilage at the front of the ear canal — and delivers electrical pulses to the auricular branch of the vagus nerve. The quality of that contact directly affects both comfort and stimulation consistency.

Vagal ear clips use a dual-electrode design with both electrodes in a single clip, so the current path stays localised to the tragus rather than spreading across a wider area. This patented approach means more precise nerve targeting and a more comfortable session.

There are two types. Tragus clips have a captive wire ending in a 2.5mm jack, and plug straight into the Vagal Buddy tVNS or the original tVNS Stimulator. tENS clips have no wire of their own — they take 2mm banana plugs, the same fitting standard TENS machines use. The Vagal Boost is itself the lead: USB-C at one end for power from a phone or power bank, and two 2mm banana plugs at the other that push into the clip. Both types are available in standard and petite sizes to accommodate different ear shapes.

Conductive paste is optional but recommended for comfort. It reduces the tingling sensation during stimulation and improves electrode contact, particularly in dry conditions. A small amount applied to the electrode surfaces before each session is all that's needed.
