What Nightshift Does

Supports deeper sleep

Research suggests tVNS at 20 Hz increases time in N3 deep sleep and reduces the micro-arousals that fragment rest. Nightshift uses the parameters identified as optimal in a 2025 sleep study.

Shifts from alert to at ease

Stimulating the vagus nerve activates the parasympathetic branch of your nervous system, helping your body transition from daytime alert mode into recovery mode before bed.

20 minutes during your wind-down

Clip on while you read, stretch, or settle into your evening routine. When the session ends, remove the clip and get into bed. No disruption to your habits.

Research-backed protocol

Based on a 2024 RCT published in JAMA Network Open and a 2025 parameter optimisation study in SLEEP. Not a guess -- the frequency and pulse width that performed best under polysomnography.

Is This Tone Right for You?

Nightshift is designed for anyone who wants to support better sleep quality through targeted vagus nerve stimulation before bed.

Why Different Tones Exist

Your vagus nerve responds differently to different stimulation patterns. Just as a single medicine can't treat every condition, a single stimulation protocol can't optimise every function. That's why Vagal devices support multiple Tones -- each one precisely tuned for a different outcome.

Frequency changes the response

Low frequencies tend to promote calm and relaxation. Higher frequencies can target gut function and inflammation. The right frequency depends on what you're trying to achieve.

Pulse shape matters

The shape and width of each electrical pulse affects how nerve fibres respond. Narrower pulses are gentler. Wider pulses recruit more nerve fibres. Different goals need different pulse profiles.

Your needs change over time

Stress, recovery, digestion, sleep -- your body has different needs at different times. A device limited to one protocol can't adapt with you. Tones let you match stimulation to the moment.

Many stimulators offer only one fixed protocol. Vagal devices support an expanding library of Tones so your stimulation grows with the science -- and with you.

Tones FAQ

Everything you need to know about Vagal Tones

Why has the app changed its name? Do I need to reinstall it?

We have completely rebuilt the app in Flutter with a focus on Bluetooth connection stability and a smoother overall experience. As part of this, the Android version has a new listing on Google Play under the name Vagally Better. If you are on Android, you will need to install the new app -- it will not update automatically from the old version. We recommend uninstalling the old app once you have the new one set up. If you are on iPhone or iPad, the iOS app will update through the App Store as normal -- you do not need to do anything. The iOS version will also be renamed to Vagally Better in a future update, but the app will continue to work exactly the same regardless of the name shown.
